Q: How much does a damp inspection cost?

The cost depends on the property, location and scope of the inspection. We will explain the proposed inspection and confirm the price before you decide whether to book. There is no obligation to use Damp Doctor Sussex for any subsequent remedial work.

Q: Can I send photographs?

Yes. Photographs can be sent by email or WhatsApp and may provide useful background information. However, photographs alone cannot confirm whether a problem is caused by rising damp, penetrating damp, condensation, bridging or another moisture source.

Q: Is the initial phone consultation free?

Yes. The initial phone consultation is free and gives you an opportunity to explain what you have noticed. We can ask relevant questions and discuss whether a property inspection appears to be the appropriate next step. There is no pressure to book an inspection or approve remedial work.

Q: Can a dehumidifier solve condensation?

A dehumidifier can reduce moisture in the air and may help manage condensation temporarily. However, it may not correct the reason humidity is building up. Heating patterns, extractor fans, background ventilation, insulation and cold surfaces should also be considered before deciding on a long-term solution.

Q: Should I paint over a damp patch?

A damp patch should not be painted over until its moisture source has been identified and addressed. The affected area should also be allowed to dry sufficiently before damaged plaster or decoration is repaired. Painting too soon may temporarily hide the mark, but staining, bubbling or peeling can return.

Q: Is black mould dangerous?

The colour of mould alone does not identify its species or determine the level of health risk. However, persistent mould indicates an unresolved moisture problem and should not be ignored. Damp and mould can affect indoor air and may have a greater impact on children, older people and those with respiratory conditions or weakened immune systems. Anyone concerned about symptoms should seek medical advice.
